A pleasant stay in the pines.
The location is excellent. You’re in the forest, only slightly off the beaten path, surrounded by woods, with a creek running about 40 feet away along the back patio of the unit. A back patio that looked like it’d been recently expanded. If you left the sliding glass door open, you can hear the water, if you closed it, you can hear your breathing. Perfect. This unit is a tonic for those that have stayed at places a little too close to Main Street and don’t want to hear motorcycles and diesel trucks rumbling by at all hours.
They provide, free of charge, two three-hour firelogs per day. Perfect to use in the evening while you’re winding down, and have a spare to use in the morning while you start your coffee – Wolfgang Puck private reserve coffee – also free of charge and waiting in the room. There’s tasteful art on the walls and mantle, there are interesting and varied magazines next to the dresser that has a flat panel tv (20″ish) and dvd player on top. The bathroom is small, but the room isn’t enormous either. Cozy’s a good word. There is also wi-fi signal in and around the room, even if at&T; doesn’t reach that far. (Plug in your cellphone at night.)
Speaking of wi-fi, there’s a lounge in the bottom floor of a barn-like building about 80 ft from the room that has a internet-connected computer, a VoIP phone, a stove, a fridge, and a surprisingly varied selection of dvd’s and vhs tapes for loan to guests. There’s also tea and microwave popcorn to go along with your movie.
The proprietors are paragons of innkeeping. Every time you see one, you’re greeted with a smile, and it seemed like they’d do anything for their guests.
When checking out, after all was settled, I started chatting with Jim & Mike, in the gallery adjacent to the office, about breakfast prospects in town. They called ahead to Cafe aroma and had a table waiting that was within eyeshot and earshot of Ernesto the guitarist on the patio. We’ll return.
